Star Wars Galaxies Mmo
A place for disgruntled former and current SWG players to talk about the game that was and the game that now is, as well as for newcomers who are curious about the issues surrounding the changes that this game has undergone.
There is also very little variation in the standard gameplay, but what is there has been implemented very well – and most importantly it’s fun to play.

An enjoyable article, heart-felt and some considered points.I think at a MUCH deeper level of design: Because MMOs are:. Big World. Big Populations of players to fit 1 and vica-versa. Lond Time of play. Sufficient depth of this to generate cultural communities to the game. The absolute core idea at the heart of any successful design needs to be a simple premise or mechanism that iterates FROM itself, multiplying and diversifying, thus generating on-the-fly as players and world interact and change each other. I played SWG from day 1 and while I will also claim it is the best MMORPG ever created, broadly speaking, I do agree with the flaws in the game design and the way SOE implemented it over time as mentioned in the article. What is missing from that article is that early on the in game there were quite a few duping exploits that players had discovered in Beta (but not reported, with the mantra Exploit Early, Exploit Often being repeated a lot on the forums).
These duping bugs resulted in a few players generating massive amounts of credits and resources early on in the game and this had some disastrous effects on the economy. In fact, I believe it resulted in SOE redesigning their database system to add a sort of serial number hash to each credit and item in the game, but I am not sure on that. I reported at least 2 different dupe bugs I encountered because I believe in playing a game as designed, and abhor cheating.
