LAKEWOOD, Ohio - City Council earlier this week presented resolutions to outgoing Director of Planning and Development Bryce Sylvester and Director of Human Resources Jean Yousefi. The latter left her position last month.“Bryce has been great during this transition,” new Mayor Meghan George said. “I wish him the best of luck. He’s done an excellent job here.”Sylvester started with the city nearly a decade ago as an intern before working his way to full-time city planner and eventually planning and development director. During his tenure, he oversaw the implementation of the city’s master bike plan and storefront renovations, as well as strategically used the Land Acquisition Fund to preserve the integrity and architecture of significant structures in the Lakewood community. Now he’s leaving the city to become Team Northeast Ohio’s director of site strategies.“It’s been such an honor and privilege to serve the Lakewood community for the last nine years,” said Sylvester, who acknowledged that it was a hard decision to leave the city.
“I’ve cherished my time working here. I’m grateful to have been a small part of the positive momentum built in this community over the years.“In this new role, I’ll be helping to lead development and management of real estate projects for competitive investment over an 18-county region.”As far as Sylvester’s replacement, George said she’s hoping to make an announcement soon; however, the coronavirus pandemic will probably delay the appointment.“In the meantime, we have excellent staff within that department who are stepping up to the plate,” George said. “They already have done so in the last couple of weeks.
We’ll continue with business as usual.”. As for Yousefi, she left Lakewood after working for a dozen years managing health care and benefits, collective bargaining contracts, workplace health and safety initiatives, and the training and professional development of the city’s workforce. The mayor said Yousefi’s departure was planned.“When I was working on transition in December, I sat down with Jean and we agreed she’d stay for two months,” George said.
“She did just a phenomenal job for us. I’m very pleased with the work she did.“To fill that position, I’m looking externally for someone with a background in government and obviously human resources knowledge. We’re on a final round of interviews.
Super stone legacy. I think that position will be filled within the next couple of weeks.”Read more news from the.
